Frequently Asked Questions

What Do I Do If I Forget My Password?

When you register on the system, you will be asked for a security question and answer.
If you have lost your password, go to the "Sign In" page and click the "Lost Password" link below the form.
You will be prompted for your user name, and then for the answer to the question you answered. Your password will then be reset to a random password, and this will be emailed to you.
Once you receive this email, you can login with the new password, and then change your password back to something easier to remember.

Is MyCarpools for Drivers or Passengers?

MyCarpools is for both Drivers and Passengers.
You may wish to do both - (E)ither - it's up to you. Just think...Drive one week, and be a passenger the next. It's entirely up to your individual carpool.

What Does It Cost Me To Register?

For members of the public registration is free.
Corporations and organizations that want to establish and run a branded, private carpool service for their employees or customers can contact us for more information.

Are My Personal Details Secure?

Most carpooling services provide electronic bulletin boards, which allows your information to be viewed by all.

With MyCarpools your information is secure, the only things visible to others are:

  • Your User Name
  • Your First Name
  • Carpooler Type – ((P)assenger,(D)river,(E)ither)
  • Preferences and general information that you entered during the setup process.
  • Your Age Group (leave as unspecified if you don't want anyone to see)
  • Your Marital Status (leave as unspecified if you don't want anyone to see)
  • Your Gender
  • Your Travel Preferences (ie males, females, not bothered)
  • Your Radio Preference
  • Your Occupation (if you entered it)
  • The suburbs you travel to and from.
  • How far away you are from them, this indicates distance apart only down to within one kilometre, if a potential partner is listed as being within a kilometre they could actually be next door!
  • How far you are willing to travel to meet up.
  • The days you might match.
  • The introduction text (if any) that you entered during the setup process.

We don't show anything else.

I Can't Find My Location on the Map?

It could be that your address is in a new street or suburb where that data is not yet made available for our database. If so try nominating an address of a major street or road near you, the data base may then be able to show you that location and will proceed to search out carpool partners for you using the alternate address as your departure point.

What If My Carpool Does Not Work Out?

No Problem! Simply log into the site, and click the "My Carpools" link on the left hand menu.
Click the "Cancel Carpools" button at the bottom of the list, and select which days you would like to withdraw from. Your carpool partners will be notified by email of your withdrawal, and you can then search for more matches.

Why Does MyCarpools Want to Know About My Personal Preferences?

We ask these questions because we want to match you with-like minded travelers whenever possible. Asking you to nominate a number of personal preferences ('likes' and 'dislikes') helps you and your potential partners to decide who to carpool with.
The preferences you select are displayed to a potential carpool partner during the matching process. You may also view the preferences of a potential carpool partner before deciding to carpool with them.
Your Contact Details are never made available for public viewing. MyCarpools is designed with safety and privacy in mind.

Symbols P, D, E, What do they represent?

Users can register as either:

  • (P) – Passenger only
  • (D) – Driver only
  • (E) – Either passenger or Driver
  • (E)ither passenger or driver choice is a best choice in terms of providing the maximum number of potential matches. It means that you are willing to either drive your own car, or be a passenger in someone else’s car. Those registered as Either may also be likely to be willing to alternate using each others vehicles, e.g. Drive one week, be a passenger the next.
  • As an (E)ither you can send offers to be part of a carpool or you can wait until someone sends you an offer to be in a carpool with you.
  • (D)river Only choice is suitable if you require or prefer the use of your own vehicle each day but are happy to take a regular passenger.
  • As a Driver you may still see matches with other drivers on your matches page just in case there are no other possible matches with people who have nominated as (P)assengers or (E)ither. You can send or receive and accept as many offers from people as you have nominated having seats available, or if your options are limited to other (D)rivers you can offer to be in a pool and then try and negotiate use of vehicles when you are in communication with your potential carpool partner.
  • (P)assenger Only choice signifies that you wish only to be a passenger in a carpool. Matching possibilities will increase, if you tick the “willing to travel to pickup point” if this is convenient for you.
  • (P) Match options will be available with: (D)rivers Only or (E)ither's.
